Ridge Preservation

Ridge preservation, also known as socket preservation, is a procedure that aims to prevent bone loss after tooth extraction and preserve the dental socket in the jawbone. This can be done by placing a membrane containing platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) with bone growth elements over the extraction site, or by using a graft material or scaffold inside the socket. The socket is then closed with stitches or covered with a membrane that can be absorbed by the body over time, and then sutured.

Sinus Lift

If a dental implant requires a sinus lift, platelet-rich fibrin may be used.

Periodontal Regeneration

In comprehensive periodontal therapy, it is necessary to restore lost or injured parts to bring back the structure and function of the periodontium. Traditional methods like open flap debridement are not effective in regenerating tissues damaged by periodontal disease. Platelet-derived growth factors and bone morphogenetic proteins are extensively studied for their role in periodontal regeneration. Meta-analysis studies have shown that platelet-rich fibrin significantly improves clinical periodontal measures and radiographs compared to open flap debridement alone. Demineralized freeze-dried bone allograft (DFDBA) is a widely used bone graft material for treating infrabony defects. However, platelet-rich fibrin has shown comparable results to DFDBA in periodontal regeneration. Gingival recession, which causes an aesthetic concern, can be addressed with a connective tissue graft, but platelet-rich fibrin can be considered as an alternative treatment option to prioritize patient comfort.
